Thrifty Sewing Projects and Walmart Sales

I've been working on a few sewing projects lately that I'll be sharing over the next two weeks! Here's a sneak peak at a ruined shirt...

and a pair of jeans...

I found some great clearance sales at Walmart last week. A Cars hoodie for $1, a thick fleece for $2, and a winter coat for $5!!

The coat was tagged as $6.50, but scanned even lower...just $5!

I don't usually shop at Walmart, mostly because they do not double coupons. But thanks to a change in Walmart's coupon policy, you can now apply "coupon overage" towards the rest of your purchase. A quick example...a small box of Gain dryer sheets is priced at $1.78 at Walmart. Use the $3 off Gain dryer sheets coupon (from the 2/13 Red Plum insert) to get a box for free PLUS $1.22 of overage towards the rest of your total.

I had three of these coupons, so I was able to get 3 free boxes of dryer sheets plus $3.66 off the rest of my total, which made those clearance clothing even sweeter! If you still have the $3 off coupon, use it quickly! It expires on Thursday.

Sunday Paper Goodies

Do you subscribe to the Sunday paper? I love that my coupons are delivered to my house every week, which saves me a trip to the store to grab the paper. (If you don't want a subscription, most Dollar Tree stores sell the Sunday paper for just $1)

The Delaware News Journal is running a promotion through the end of January where you can get the Sunday paper delivered for $1 a week, plus a $10 gift card to Wawa! You must pay via "easy pay" which bills you all at once for the year, and the offer is only valid for households that have not subscribed in the past 30 days. Previously this offer has only run for a month, which meant there was not enough time to cancel a subscription at a more expensive rate and then re-subscribe, but this time you have over 2 months, so I think that would work. For more information go to the News Journal or call 1-800-801-3322 (promo code: X-FS).

Check the back page of the USA Weekly magazine that comes in the Sunday paper for a coupon for two free 5x7 HP photo greeting cards at the HP Kiosk (located at Walmart). I have not used the HP photo Kiosk yet, but I plan to now. There are also more coupons available on their website.

This week's edition of the News Journal also had the reader's choice awards for the best businesses in Delaware. Many of the businesses that were voted best offered coupons also, so it is worth a quick flip through that special section of the paper.

Did you see any other goodies in the Sunday paper this week? Feel free to share them with us!

Free coffee and cheap Sunday paper

Starbucks Coffee

I am really excited about this! Starbucks is running an 8 week promotion to encourage you to try their different bold varieties...and there is a reward at the end! Every week for the next 8 weeks, they will be brewing a different variety of their bold coffee. You can get a cup for $1.50, and you will also receive a card with a sticker showing that you tried the week's brew. At the end of the 8 weeks, if you collect all 8 stickers (that is, try all 8 varieties) you will get a free pound of your favorite!

Many of my favorite Starbucks brews are going to be featured (Gold Coast, Sumatra, Komodo Dragon!), which is why I am so excited.

Week 1 has already started and runs through March 14th. The rest of the schedule is as follows:
Week 2: March 15-21 French Roast
Week 3: March 22-28 Starbucks RED
Week 4: March 29-April 4 Komodo Dragon
Week 5: April 5-11 Cafe Verona
Week 6: April 12-18 Cafe Estima
Week 7: April 19-25 Gold Coast
Week 8: April 26-May 3 Sumatra

Notice that the week starts on Monday and runs through Sunday. You can read more on the Starbucks Bold site.

Delaware News Journal

There is a great deal running on home delivery of the Sunday DE News Journal - $1 a week! I am currently getting the Sunday paper this way. This offer is for new subscribers only (must have been inactive for 30 days to join) and is running through April 30, 2010. So if you are currently subscribing, I think you could cancel your subscription, wait 30 days, and then still be able to take advantage of this offer. Also, when you subscribe via EZ pay or pay all at once when you order, you will receive a free 2010 Entertainment Book!

This is a great way to get easy access to the Sunday coupon inserts every week!

Go here to get all the details.

Remember, there are still a few days left to enter my giveaway!

Sunday paper highlights

I wanted to highlight a few things from the paper for this week:

Walgreens

The new Walgreens on 301 next to Kohls is open, and there is a coupon for $3 of $10 purchase at that location only in the ad. The coupon is good through 11/14. Remember that at Walgreens your $10 is after all coupons (this is different than at Rite Aid). There are also 3 photo coupons on the back of the ad including Free 5x7 or 8x10 enlargement.

Glade Sense & Spray, $4.99
-$4 coupon (10/18 SS)
$.99 after coupon

Glade 4.5 oz soy candle, $3.99
-$1 coupon (10/4 SS)
get $1 RR back, good on next purchase

Both Glade deals count towards the $5 SC Johnson rebate

There are also 2 RR deals on P&G products. Check out Deal Seeking Mom for coupon match-ups.

Rite Aid

I'm not all that impressed with the sales at Rite Aid this week, but in the center fold of the ad are several items for managing your diabetes that are noteworthy, including several different blood glucose monitors that are free after Single Check Rebate.

Toys R Us

Check out the large toy book for a bunch of different sales that you can pair with the coupons I wrote about here. Prices listed in the book are good through 11/26 (Thanksgiving). There is also a coupon on the back for a $10 gift card when you purchase $75 of qualifying merchandise.

Gymboree

There is a 15% off your entire purchase in store or online in the P&G insert this week

Target

There are 4 different Bissell vacuums on sale at Target this week, with a $25 GC back when you purchase any of them. Look in this week's SmartSource for a $20 rebate on any Bissell vacuum over $100 (all of the Target ones qualify!)

Sunday paper and Babies R Us deal

A few things that I wanted to note in yesterday's paper:

*There were 3 coupon inserts
--In the SmartSource insert is information about getting a free journal from Energizer with the purchase of batteries. Read more about it here.
--Coupons for SuperCuts, located in Middletown Crossing shopping center
--Form for a full rebate on No Yolks egg noodle pasta
--Coupons for Red Lobster
--$3 coupon for Sunggle products, which should mean cheap or free fabric softener (and I've heard free dryer sheets at Family Dollar)

My friend MVB first made me aware of this deal at both Babies R Us and Toys R Us stores:

Purchase $30 worth of the following items and receive a $10 gift card to Babies R Us/Toys R Us.

Additionally, the $30 purchase qualifies you for a Good Cooks kitchenware set ($40 value) that includes a saute pan, kitchen timer, measuring cups, and spatula!

Sunday Paper review

I wanted to mention a few deals that I found in yesterday's copy of the Delaware News Journal. (Want to get the Sunday News Journal delivered for just $1 a week? See how! But hurry, it expires at the end of the month)
*There were 3 coupon inserts this week, 1 SmartSource, 1 RedPlum, and the P&G brandsaver. In the SmartSource is a "try me free" coupon for Palmolive Pure and Clear dish soap along with coupon! There was a rebate for this a few weeks ago, so you probably cannot do both.
*A Babies R Us add had a few coupons, including one for Huggies. Since this is a store coupon, you can stack it with a manufacturer's coupon to add savings
*A Ruby Tuesday coupon for buy one get one free dinners (up to $10)
*In the USA Weekend mag there were Poise coupons
*Also noteworthy is that the price has been dropped on the Nintendo Wii to $199 (from $250) at most (if not all) retailers. The best deal I see is at Amazon: from September 27 to October 3, 2009, get a $25 Amazon gift card when you buy the wii console!
