The berry picking just opened for the season last week, so we had no trouble finding enough berries. And they were priced at $1.85 a pound -- which is better than the grocery stores AND you get the added bonus of picking them yourself.
We brought our own basket to put berries, but Filasky's does have plastic buckets that you can purchase for $1 each. You will have to have your own basket weighed before you begin picking, so that everything is accurate when they weigh your strawberries to pay for them.
This is a great family activity that is inexpensive, healthy, and helps to support your local food producers. If you do not live near Middletown, check for local berry farms in your area. A helpful site for this is pickyourown.org
And remember while you're loading your basket with pounds and pounds of berries, these are so fresh and free of preservatives that they will start to go bad within 48 hours of picking. Just have a plan for strawberry cheesecake, shortcake, jam, etc! (We ended up freezing ours to throw in our smoothies)
I love strawberry picking! And that is a great price! Fun and a good deal is hard to beat!
ReplyDeleteFor anyone interested, they are open until 7:00 each evening and I think they may open at 6 or 7 in the morning! Happy Picking! We can't wait to go back soon...hey maybe tomorrow or Friday, anyone interested?
